Prince of Egypt Family Movie Night+Smoothie Bowl Recipe

What do you do when you spy ‘The Prince of Egypt’ on sale for only $5 dollars? Well I snatched up a copy, and immediately started planning family movie night.

This movie is a classic. I still remember when it first came out. It was on repeat at our house. And the recess playground was filled with the shrill voices of my classmates and I singing ‘There can be miracles…’ at the top of our lungs.

Again, the nostalgia is real!

So clearly, I picked up a copy and started brainstorming some on-themed movie snacks. I scoured Pinterest, finding 10 plague snacktivities, baby in a basket snacks, cookie pyramids. However, I wanted a snack that really showcased the heart of this movie: The Exodus.

That’s when I discovered this scrumptious smoothie bowl recipe from Land of Honey. She made a smoothie bowl to showcase the parting of the red sea. I was totally inspired to whip up our own version for our movie night.

*Also want to note, for those who may not remember the whole movie, this movie is best for older kiddos. There are just some themes that probably need to wait until the kids are in older elementary. However, this snacktivity (and the Prince of Egypt Soundtrack) is perfect for any age. If you have younger kiddos in the family too, maybe stick to Veggie Tales Mo’ And the Big Exit. For the family part and watch Prince of Egypt when they’re in bed.

What’s a Smoothie Bowl?

I know I am late to the game, but I recently discovered smoothie bowls, and cannot get enough. They are the perfect spring snack. It’s like a smoothie version of ice cream. Thick like ice cream, can be topped like ice cream, but all of the deliciousness of a smoothie.

For our smoothie bowl, we used blue spirulina powder and made piña colada smoothies. I stuck with white fruits, because I really wanted that blue to pop.

Then we topped our bowls with crushed toasted coconut chips, candy rocks, gummy fish, and teddy grahams.

Prince of Egypt Smoothie Bowls

What you need:

  • 3 frozen bananas
  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1/2 cup frozen coconut
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tsp blue spirulina
  • Honey to taste
  • Toppings (crushed cookies, toasted coconut, teddy grahams, candy, fresh fruit, nuts, and/or seeds)

What you do:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth. Add more milk or fruit as needed.
  3. Top as desired.

Other Snack Ideas:

  • Egyptian Snacks for Kids: Since this story starts in Egypt, try some Egyptian cuisine.
  • Burning Bush Cupcakes: These cupcakes are just the cutest. And who doesn’t love a cupcake?
  • Burning Bush S’mores- Make s’mores and remember that God appeared to Moses in a burning bush. This would be especially fun for a back yard movie night.
  • Cross the Red Sea’ Jello– Similar to our jello bin, instead make the red sea jello for dessert. Use teddy grahams instead of toys to cross on dry land.

Extra Fun!
