If you have not heard of the Baby BelieverBook Series by Daniell Hitchen, allow me to introduce you. These are probably some of my favorite discipleship tools for introducing young children to the Bible. Each page is beautifully illustrated by Jessica Blanchard, features actual scripture, and offers key takeaways for small children in understanding the Lord and his word. I highly recommend this collection for any home or church library. This is why I am so excited to be reviewing their new addition to the series, ‘Jesus Heals: An Anatomy Primer.’

What is it?

‘Jesus Heals: An Anatomy Primer’ takes young readers through several of the healing miracles of Jesus’ ministry while teaching them their body parts. Each page features a body part and actual scripture depicting when Jesus healed that particular body part for someone. For example: the page about eyes talks about when Jesus healed a blind man. The book concludes by sharing Jesus’ ultimate healing miracle: the healing of our souls. It quotes:

“Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and start living for what is right. And we are heales because of his wounds.” (1 Peter 2:24, ICB)

What I Love

I love that this book contains actual scripture, and not in a way that feels stuffy or religious. It feels natural. The text naturally conext little ones to the Word of God, showing them that scriptures are for them too. I also love that they point little ones to the Gospel in the end. These miracles aren’t just stories in themselves, they are pointing to a greater work: the salvation of our souls.

What The Girls Love

My girls love any book that lets them play while they read. They loved pointing to each of their own body parts as we read. Again, this helps them connect with the stories being described.

Vale particularly loved seeing women in the book. As she is growing and recognizing that she is a girl, she loves being able to see girls in the books and movies. It is such a gift finding a faith-based resource that includes the stories of women in the Bible.

Highly Recommend

I would highly recommend this book for any church nursery or library. It would also make a beautiful birthday gift for any small child.
