For many, Christmas carols are an essential part of celebrating the season. And since music is such a wonderful to learn, what better way fo littles to learn the Christmas story?! Below you will find a Playlist of classic Christmas Carols to walk your family through the Christmas story. And for those of us trying to raise bilingual babies, I have included villancico options as well. You could use these with an Advent Reading Plan, or simply add them to your Christmas Carol library to refocus your family throughout the season.
Bethlehem
“So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.”
-Luke 2:4-5
Bethlehem is a central part of the Christmas story. It was mentioned in prophecy (Micah 5:2). And through out the story, there is a lot of traveling to Bethlehem, starting with Mary and Joseph. So we are kicking off our playlist with a song about traveling to Bethlehem.

The Manger
“She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was room in the inn.”

Jesus was not born in a hospital, or even a house. He was born among the animals, and laid in a manger. So the next song is “Away in a Manger.”

The Shepherds
“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.”

Shepherds were the first people to hear of Jesus’ birth. They were some of the lowest class people of their time, but God chose them to witness the birth of Messiah, and spread the word.

The Angels
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

The Kings
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
