Oh hey! There are so many new faces around here, I'm doing that #fridayintroductions thing 😂❤. I'm Kayla (the mama in the picture). That's my husband, Fabian. And these are our two girls, Vale and Naomi. I have yet to figure out how to get them to not look grumpy in family photos 🤷‍♀️ (if you have tips, send them my way!) . ..... And here are some random things you otherwise might not know about me: . 1️⃣ I love coffee (what #toddlermom doesn't?) And I drink it black ☕. 2️⃣ I'm a t-shirt and jeans girl. It's a classic, and perfect for #toddlerwrangling 3️⃣I for sure prefer sweet over salty (or really any other taste). My favorite sweet right now is the guayaba-filled conchas from @dulceriabakery 😋❤they're delicious and if you're local you need to try them! . .... Now what about you? Anything we're the same on? Today we are marking off "King" on our #biblebingo , because this story does have a king even though it is more about a Queen. We are learning about Esther. I planned a "Princess Tea Party" for the girls (check my stories to see what they chose to wear 😘👆). And as we read from our "Children of God Storybook Bible" the prayer at the end hit me: . ..... "Dear God, help me to protect my community." . For some of us, this prayer seems so distant. We could never imagine a situation where we or our children would actually NEED to protect our communities. However for many of us, this is a very real, daily prayer. And sometimes the reality isn't that there is no need. Reality is that we are privileged enough that the need does not effect us. . ..... Today, friends I am praying that my girls would be raised up as Esthers. That they would recognize their position and privilege in their communities, and do what they can to make things right. I pray that for my girls. I pray that for all our children. And I'm praying that for us mamas. . ..... Dear God, help us to protect our communities. . . . It's #worldlovewednesday and this month we have been learning about and praying for the Native American Nations of North America. I wanted to share our #learningshelf for the month. It features some our favorite books by Native American Authors, a few elements for some #bookishplay with the stories, and 'Aaniin' which is 'Hello' in the Anishinaabemowin language . I'll be sharing more specifics up in my stories 👆. . .... I like to use this space to introduce my little ones to new voices and perspectives. When learning about cultures with little ones, it is so important to find books and stories by people that are actually from that culture. Not just stories about that culture from an outside perspective, or featuring characters from that culture, but neither the author nor illustrator is from that culture (this is more common than many of us would like to believe😬). Listening AND learning from voices that are different from our own is such an important skill, and books is one way that we can start building this skills with little ones. And when the month is over, we don't just leave these books. They become favorites that we check out from the library regularly (some joining our home collection when we find them in Spanish), and we continue to look for new books from these authors. . ..... ❤What books are your kids loving right now? Elías y las tortillas🌮🤔 . .... Today we are marking food off on our #biblebingo by reading the story where Elijah asked a widow for some bread and water during a famine(1 Kings 17:7-6). The widow only had a little flour and oil, which she was going to use to make one final meal for herself and her son, and then they would die, because they had no food. Pretty grim, right? However, she obeyed the Lord, brought the prophet food, and because of her obedience, neither her flour or oil ran out until the end of the famine. . .... Now before I married Fabian, I always wondered what type of bread was this girl making? All she had was flour, oil, and water. But now that I have learned a few recipes from my suegra, it is quite clear that this girl was making tortilla de harina. Am I right? So that's what we made, and Vale later told Fabian that the miracle was the widow had an endless supply of tortillas. 🙈😂🙌 #youcantmakethisstuffup . ..... Today we are marking "Water" off our #kidsplaytruth Bible Bingo by playing with the story of Baby Moses. Let me start by saying I LOVE this story. Yes. This is a story about a baby boy that grew up to change history. But even more than that, this story is about women. Bold, strong, brave women that stood for what was right, even when it was hard. And because of their bravery, God was able to save a baby boy, and ultimately a nation. . .... As we play through this story, I pray my girls would grow up to be like these women. I pray they would be as brave as Shifra and Puah. When kings declare families should be torn apart, they will resist. I pray they will be as wise and discerning as Miriam. May they see the opportunities for justice, and chase them. And I pray they would be as bold as the Egyptian Princess. May they recognize their position and their privileges, and use it to do what's right. . .... May we raise these women. May we be these women ✊. . .... ❤What are you praying over your kids today? . . . .
