Herding the Sheep

This fun activity is perfect for building gross motor skills while learning about shepherds. Use this while studying Psalm 23, the Parable of the Good Shepherd, or the Shepherds who visited Jesus. Simply read the story, then play this fun game.

Herd the Sheep

What you need:

  • Several white balloons
  • Sharpie marker
  • Large blanket

What you do:

  1. Blow balloons up, and draw a sheep face on all of them.
  2. Scatter balloons throughout room.
  3. Have child(ren) “herd” the “sheep” around the room using their hands.
  4. Have them coral the “sheep” on the blanket.

Skills:

This game works on all sorts of gross motor skills by having children use large movements to maneuver the sheep.

Try having the children count the sheep as they herd them onto the blanket.

You can also try hiding the sheep around the room, making them more difficult to gather.
