Gifts That Do Good

As Christmas draws near, we are starting to write our Christmas lists, and gather gifts for loved ones. If we are going to be giving gifts anyway, why not buy a gift that gives back. Eco-friendly, fair-trade, or simply donating profits, here some of my favorite gift ideas this holiday season.

Hearts for Hearts Dolls

Hearts for Hearts Dolls are beautiful cultural dolls, dressed in modern fashion from the culture that the doll represents. Each doll includes a mini book that shares information about the culture she is from. They are about the size of American Girl Doll’s Wellie Wishers. And the best part of these dolls is $1 from each doll purchased is donated to World Vision.

Green Toys

Green Toys is an awesome company that uses 100% recycled materials to produce their toys, meaning they are working to care for the earth and lower our carbon footprint. They have everything from playdough kits to tea sets. However, I am especially of a fan of their trucks.

Smarty Girl Pants

We love Smarty Girl pants for so many reason. First, these pants feature designs such as airplanes (pictured), cars, and bugs in stereotypical girl colors, helping encourage my 2 year-olds love for planes. Also, they are fair trade! These pants will empower your little girl while empowering other girls around the world. So much to love about these pants.

Libritos for the Heart

Libritos for the Heart is the first bilingual board book to introduce children to both Spanish and English language, as well as teach about the Bible. The reason these books made the list, is a percentage of all their profits are given to missions.

Non-Fiction Coffee

If you’ve been following for a while, you know I love a good cup of coffee. I love Non-Fiction Coffee Co. For their commitment to impact the world locally and globally. Not only is their coffee ethically sourced, they also pour money back into communities in need around the world. This is a worthy gift for the coffee snob in your life.

Fair Trade Winds

Fair Trade Winds is my favorite fair trade jewelry company. They sell more than just jewelry. However, there jewelry is why they are on my Christmas list. They also have gift options that empower women, eco-friendly gifts, and gifts that give back to the commnuity.

Nutmeg’s Spreads

For the foodie in your life, consider gifting some of Nutmeg’s nut butters. These all natural nut butters are sweetened with a bit of cinnamon, and are so flavorful that your toddler won’t even miss the sugar. Not only delicious, 50% of profits are donated to non-profits in Kenya.

Color and Kindness

Color and Kindness has products that will help build your family’s faith while providing a meal for a child in need. Advent cards, scripture cards, Bible Alphabet flashcard, and every dollar spent goes to help #feedcreatively.

Tom’s Shoes–Disney Collection

Final item on my list are ALL of Tom’s Disney Collection. In recent years I have become fairly impressed by how Tom’s has grown and has started working towards development, not just charity in the communities where they give. They still are giving shoes to children in need, but they are also providing jobs in those communities. They had recieved quite a bit of criticism for their charity efforts in the past, as being a company who’s “helping hurts.” However, in browsing their website I have really been impressed with their growth and efforts to do more development, not just charity, in recent years. So they are on my list.
