Psalm 119:11 Craft for Kids

This month we are learning about the Psalms! As my big kids (now 6 and 8) have gotten older, it’s been a joy to find new ways to engage them with scripture. And one way they love to engage is with unique crafts. So to start of this Psalms study, we’re meditating on Psalm 119:11 with an origami heart craft.

‘I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.’ –Psalms 119:11 (NLT)

We are literally hiding the scripture inside our paper hearts so that it may be imbedded in the hearts of our souls. My kids LOVED this and it has become a great reminder of Psalm 119:11 throughout the study.

Come pray n’ play with us!

What you need:

  • Origami paper, or square paper of choice. We used red and pink construction paper cut into a square.
  • Black pen or colored pencil

What you do:

1. Write Psalm 119:11 on the ‘backside’ of your paper. This will become the side folded into your paper heart.

For easy reference:

‘I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.’ –Psalms 119:11 (NLT)

‘He guardado tu palabra en mi corazón, para no pecar contra ti.’ –Salmos 119:11 (NTV)

2. Fold the paper horizontally.

3. Unfold the paper.

4. Fold the paper vertically.

5. Unfold the paper.

6. Fold the bottom edge into the middle of the paper.

7. Flip paper over.

8. Fold bottom two corners up and into the middle, forming a point at the bottom of the page.

9. Flip paper over.

10. Fold both the left and right edges into the middle.

11. Fold top two corners down and into the middle, forming a point at the top of the paper.

12. There should be a pocket formed in the bottom of your paper. Fold the top point of your paper into the pocket. Two flaps should become open and elevated on the top edge.

13. Fold flat the two flaps on the top edge, forming two triangle pockets in the middle.

14. Fold the top two corners in.

15. Fold the top two points down.

16. Flip your paper over, and you have a paper heart with scripture hidden inside.
