Two Spanish Christian Fingerplays for Fun

When I ran into Kristi Torres’ website The Spanish Light, I was just tickled! Another mama raising little bilinguals who love Jesus?! Her website and resources have been such a gift to me, and I know will bless you too. She was gracious enough to share some Spanish Fingerplays below, and be sure to check out The Spanish Light for more inspiration for raising Spanish-speakers.

Two Spanish Christian Fingerplays

Looking for ways to keep little ones entertained during diaper changes or while they wait for you to finish meal time that doesn’t involve technology? We LOVE songs at my house and fingerplays are the next best thing now that my daughter is a toddler and can do motions as well.

As we are a bilingual-Spanish speaking Christian household, fingerplays that increase my child’s vocabulary and teach her about Christ’s love are ones that we cling to and sing a lot. Plus, I’m always trying to add more songs to my mental list that we can sing during those moments when she most has the wiggles and can distract her.

Additionally, research shows that a child retains vocabulary more through direct active interaction (like when playing with you) than through passive interaction (watching songs on a tv). So fingerplays are the perfect way to teach vocabulary as you’re directly interacting with your child-singing and doing the actions with them.

Estaba Lloviendo

I’ve made up one for you all based on Mark 4:35-41 when Jesus calms the storm. It’s sung to the tune of “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring.”

Que Feliz Estoy

Another Spanish song with motions that we are working on learning is “Que Feliz Estoy.” This song is an oldie, but a goodie! It celebrates Jesus’s redemptive work in our lives. Celebrate that with your child with this song.

Also check out this link to familiarize yourself with the song. Do note that my motions are different though: https://youtu.be/oPimn2alRvI
